Bath and Bodyworks Autumn/Winter Haul

I’ve been lusting after Bath and Bodyworks products ever since they first started popping up in people’s blogs, Instagram feeds and YouTube videos, but had always resigned myself to the fact I would never get my hands on them. They don’t have a store in the UK and their website doesn’t ship to the UK either, so I just had to make myself feel better by buying other smellies from UK stores. However, one day I was watching a video from the lovely Charlotte Louise Taylor (if you don’t already, you should go and watch her videos!) and she was talking about buying some Bath and Bodyworks bits from a Facebook group she had found. I’m always a bit wary of Facebook selling groups, but Charlotte had said she’d had positive experiences with it so far, so I decided to join Bath and Bodyworks Fans UK.

Since joining, I’ve ordered off a few different people and have never had a bad experience (obviously it’s down to individual sellers, but so far they’ve all been really good). So I thought I would show you the autumn and winter candles I’ve received. My first little haul was these three autumn three-wick candles. It’s a bit difficult because you can’t smell anything, so I had to decide based on the descriptions on the website (which are actually pretty detailed and helpful) and other people’s recommendations, but the group were really helpful in helping me work out what I might like.

The first candle I went for was Marshmallow Fireside, which is made with notes of toasted marshmallow, smoldering woods, fire-roasted vanilla and crystallized amber. I assumed it would have quite a sweet scent, but actually it’s very subtle. You can definitely smell the sweetness of the marshmallow and vanilla, but the woody/fire scent really pairs this down. To me, it really does smell like sitting round a campfire toasting marshmallows.

The next autumn candle I chose was Pumpkin Apple and it has notes of red delicious apple, fall pumpkin, fresh ground cinnamon and clove buds. I wanted something fruity and fresh, and that’s exactly what I got with this candle. I was a little bit worried about it having cinnamon in it because I’m not really a fan of that scent, but thankfully it isn’t too overpowering at all. You can definitely smell the fruitiness of the apple and pumpkin, but it also smells very homely and cosy, thanks to the cinnamon and clove. This is definitely a good one for autumn.

For my last autumn candle, I knew I had to get Leaves, the one everyone raves about! It’s kind of hard to imagine what leaves might smell like – we have woodland behind our house and you either get that crisp autumn air scent or, when the leaves go soggy, that slightly rotting damp smell! But this candle definitely reminds me more of the first one, with notes of crisp red apple, golden nectar and warm clove spice. I’ve been burning this one a lot, and the scent pretty much ends up filling the whole house. It’s another very cosy scent and for me, the clove is definitely the strongest smell.

One of the things that particularly attracted me to the three-wick candles was the gorgeous lid you get on them. The autumn ones had either a gold leaf or a copper pumpkin and just make the candles look so pretty. I think I watched one of Zoella’s videos a year or so ago, and she said that she uses the lids as coasters once the candle is finished, which I think is a brilliant idea.

Fast forward a month, and the Christmas candles were starting to make an appearance on the group. There were so many amazing scents and I found it so hard to choose just three. I had a long list on my phone, which I kept looking at, trying to reduce it (but actually just ended up adding to it!) Thankfully, I chatted to a few people on the Facebook group, and they helped me whittle down the scents they thought I might enjoy.

The first candle I picked was Champagne Toast. It’s kind of difficult to know what to expect from a candle with this name, as champagne doesn’t really have a particularly strong aroma! But this actually turned out to be one of my favourites, with notes of bubbly champagne, sparkling berries and juicy tangerine. It smells so good! There’s the sweetness of the berries and the slight tang from the tangerine. I’m pretty sure you can even smell the champagne bubbles, which I thought would be impossible.

My next pick was Frosted Cranberry, which just sounded like it should be really Christmassy. I love fruity scents, but wanted to find one that definitely reminded me of Christmas, and this one fit the bill. It has notes of iced cranberries and orange essential oil, giving it a really fresh and crisp scent, perfect for this time of year. It’s not too sweet either, despite it being fruity, which makes quite a nice change to the sweet candles I usually buy.

The last Christmas candle I ordered was Blueberry Sugar (yep, another fruity one!) This one has notes of sweet blueberries, brown sugar and Graham Cracker Crust – it actually smells like a Christmas bakery! Compared to the crispness of the Frosted Cranberry, this one is a lot more sweet and cosy, as you get the baking smell of the sugar and crackers. I didn’t think blueberries could smell that Christmassy, but somehow they’ve managed it with this candle.

Just like the autumn candles, these Christmassy ones also have the patterned lids. Blueberry Sugar and Champagne Toast both have silver lids with a snowflake (which actually reflects onto my ceiling – very pretty!) and Frosted Cranberry has a copper lid with Christmas trees on it. Again, I will be keeping these to use as coasters after I’ve burnt the candles.

There’s no denying that these candles aren’t particularly cheap (I would say they are mid-range, much like Yankee Candles) but the three-wick ones that I bought are huge! They have a good throw and you can smell them even when they’re not lit, which I think is really nice. And when you do light them, my whole family soon knows about it, as the scent travels through the house. Yes, buying through a Facebook group isn’t exactly ideal (and I’m still keeping everything crossed that Bath and Bodyworks might finally decide to come to the UK one day soon!) but so far I’ve only had good experiences buying through the group and am so happy to finally have got my hands on a few candles.

Are you a Bath and Bodyworks fan? What’s your favourite scent? Will you be checking out the Facebook group after reading my post?

Week in Photos - 26th November 2017

I haven’t felt that great this week to be honest. Although I seem to have almost got rid of the virus I’ve had for the last few weeks, I just seem to be feeling pretty down, wiped out and run down. Basically, all I want to do is stay in bed and sleep. But this week has been crazy busy with university and appointments, so that hasn’t been an option. I don’t really like being negative on here, but I also think it’s important to acknowledge when things are a bit crap – this is meant to be about my life after all. Somehow, I need to find some motivation and get myself back on track again.

After taking some time off, I was back at Uni on Monday for another news day. I had to edit together a pretty serious video about railway suicides. So I decided to treat myself to a Christmas Starbucks in one of their cute Christmassy cups. I noticed they also had some adorable ceramic Christmas mugs in the shop, which I’m so tempted to go back and buy (although I’m not quite sure where I will put it – my mug collection is getting pretty big!) Thankfully, my news package got some amazing feedback from my course leader and another lecturer. They’ve even recommended that I enter it into a competition, which was a massive complement. I’ll be sharing it on my YouTube very soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Freddie always manages to spread himself out in the most uncomfortable looking positions! Yet somehow still manages to look cosy and cute. He’s particularly loving my Dunelm teddy bear blanket at the moment!

It’s been so dark, cold and gloomy recently and as I mentioned, I’ve been struggling with my mental health quite a bit. So when I popped into Waitrose to get some cash out, I decided to pick up these beautiful autumnal flowers to go in our kitchen. How gorgeous are those roses.

My Mum has made our kitchen look nice and cosy with fairy lights. There’s a heart hanging from one of the windows and then three lanterns, all from Waitrose. I always like to use lots of fairy lights and candles this time of year. It helps to make the darkness a bit less dark.

I received these amazing Dr Martens for my birthday last month and completely forgot to share a photo of them with you! So here they are – have you ever seen anything quite so pretty?! I will definitely feel like some kind of mermaid unicorn when I wear these. There’s a ‘What I got for my birthday’ video up over on my YouTube channel.

On Thursday, my Dad and I took the train up to Denmark Hill for my appointment at Kings College Hospital. I had to do some exercise tests where they monitored my breathing, oxygen saturation, heart rate and blood pressure. I knew it would be hard, but oh my goodness it completely knocked me out. I ended up having to give up before I passed out, so I hope they got what they needed. Because I was so wiped out afterwards, they told me to go down to Costa and get some sugar in me (and who was I to say no?!)

Our boy is doing so well since his surgery – he’s such a fighter. Considering how poorly he was only a short while ago, he’s done fantastically. This week he had his stitches taken out in two stages, but unfortunately he’s still got to wear the inflatable collar (which he’s not impressed with at all!) but it’s so he doesn’t re-open the wound. It’s good to have the real Alfie back again.

A few years ago, I started a little tradition that each year I would buy a new Christmas film. I’m building up quite a collection, so it’s getting more and more difficult to find films to add. But this year, after getting recommendations from some Facebook friends, I picked up a box set of Santa Clause films and also The Nightmare Before Christmas. So I’m looking forward to watching these over the next few weeks.

My Mum and I went over to Richard and Lisa’s yesterday to see the bunnies, Benjie and Beatrix. They’re so cute and fluffy, so it was nice to have a little cuddle.

You can check out my YouTube channel here, where I have recently uploaded a few new videos (and hope to continue doing!)

I’m also trying to post on Snapchat a bit more, so if you fancy following me, my username is Jennycole44.

If you don’t already, please give me a follow on Bloglovin here - I can’t believe I’ve managed to hit 800 followers now! Thank you all so much. I’m planning a giveaway as soon as I can get some bits together!

Week in Photos - 5th November 2017

As I didn’t do a Week in Photos post last weekend, I thought I would bring the last couple of weeks together in this post. It’s been a fairly busy couple of weeks (as usual!) I had my half term/study week first, which was lovely because I desperately needed a bit of time off. Although I actually spent most of it working on the literature review for my dissertation. Then this week I was back at university again and also had quite a few medical appointments (one of which was over in Kent, so that was a whole day thing). I can’t believe we’re in November already! I’m really starting to feel a bit Christmassy now and should really start getting myself organised soon.

Last week I ended up taking a bit of an unintentional break from social media. I’ve just been feeling very overwhelmed by life and university work, so focused on getting my work done and taking a bit of time for myself. I was also gradually opening post that was sent to me for my birthday. I know it probably sounds silly that it took me so long to open parcels, but I really wanted to be able to appreciate opening them and feel grateful for what each person had chosen for me. So I wait for times when I’m not completely wiped out, which means it can take me a while. This parcel was from my friend Adele, and I absolutely loved the homemade unicorn card and flamingo paper!

I was very excited to get my hands on a copy of Happiful Magazine - the first time I’ve had a byline in a national magazine! It’s a pretty cool feeling. If you want to check out the UK’s first magazine to focus on positive mental health, you can find a copy in a selection of Waitrose stores. I know I’m biased but I definitely recommend it!

I love these miniature roses that I bought for my Mum. The colours are so beautiful and autumnal.

As I said, I spent most of my half term working on the literature review for my dissertation. But on Friday afternoon, my Mum, Dad, Lisa and I went on a scarecrow hunt around our town. It was organised by our church and was such great fun for all ages! So much work went into all the scarecrows too. We’re hoping it will become an annual event.

I really do love this time of year, especially when the weather is like this. Cool crisp days with blue skies and leaves of every colour. I often take a minute to just soak it all up and appreciate how beautiful it is. There have been (and no doubt will be in the future) so many times that I haven’t been well enough to leave the house or even my bed. So I like to try and lock moments like these in my memories to help me through my more poorly days. I find that when I am too unwell to get out and about, the things I miss the most are the simple things like this, rather than big exciting outings.

My sister-in-law, Emma, and I carved some pumpkins last weekend. Of course, we had to go for Disney characters, so Emma did Cinderella and I went for the Cheshire Cat. What do you think of them?

I just love all the pretty leaves at this time of year. Especially when they’re all crunchy, so that when I go through them in my wheelchair they make that lovely crunching sound.

I’ve been burning this Bath and Bodyworks Leaves candle recently and oh my goodness it smells amazing! My room definitely smells like autumn all the time at the moment. I have a couple of other autumnal ones to burn and I’m eyeing up the Christmas range. I just can’t choose which ones to get!

We decided to make my brother a New Dad Survival Kit using one of his paramedic bags. Inside were things like earplugs, wipes, beer, a baby manual, chocolate, paracetamol, a ‘Daddy’ mug, some coffee and some cute baby grows. Hopefully it will come in useful when Baby Cole arrived soon!

I was very excited to see the article I wrote in a magazine with Princess Eugenie on the cover! This is the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Reflexions magazine and I wrote a piece about my time at Stanmore on the three-week rehabilitation programme. Hopefully it might help other people who are waiting to go on the programme, as I know while I was waiting I really wanted to know what it was like. You can also read about my time there in more detail in previous blog posts.

We don’t normally decorate for Halloween, but I had to get this banner and some pumpkin balloons for our filming at university, so I brought them home and decorated the fireplace. The banner was from Poundland and the light-up pumpkin balloons were from Sainsbury’s.

Everyone knows I’m a little bit obsessed with the Marks and Spencer Percy Pigs. So when my Mum spotted these Percy Pumpkins she picked up a few bags for me. I thought they looked cute with my little munchkins from Waitrose too – I love that they come in all sorts of different colours and shapes.

There have been some absolutely beautiful sunsets this week. This one was outside the new Hobbycraft in Farnborough. My Mum and I went over to check it out and when we went to leave this is what greeted us in the car park. The colours were just amazing.

I was very excited by the October Tea Tourist box, with all the teas on a hats and scarves theme – very seasonal. And there was even a complementary biscotti! If you want to get your hands on your own box, use the code JAFFACAT30 and you will get 30% off your first box.

Yesterday, we all went to watch the Yateley Firework Display, which was great as usual. I’m really starting to feel Christmassy now that Bonfire Night has happened. After the fireworks, we came home and had jacket potatoes, sausages and beans. And then we toasted some marshmallows – we had to use forks though as we couldn’t find any sticks! They were still very yummy and smelt so good.
