Sunday Spotlight - 29th September 2013

I thought I’d try and do a regular section on my blog – the Sunday Spotlight, where, every Sunday, I post a few things that have grabbed my attention during the past week. It could be anything, from an item of clothing to a song, from a TV programme to something in every day life. This week, I’ve been loving the following…

Christmas jumpers

OK, so I know it’s only the end of September, but Christmas is fast approaching and will be here before we know it. I remember when I was small and my parents would dress me in knitted jumpers with garish Christmas-themed images or patterns. Looking back at photos I was horrified at the fashion of the times, thinking I’d never dream of entertaining the thought of wearing something like that again. But fast forward a few years, and Christmas jumpers have made a huge comeback. I’ll admit there are still some on sale that I wouldn’t go near, but there are also quite a few designs that are fun and festive, and will brighten up those dark, cold December days. New Look previewed their new Christmas jumpers for this season, which are due to go on sale from Monday and I’ve already spotted the one I’ll be buying – a simple black jumper with a cute little gingerbread man on the front. I’m just excited to see what the other stores will have to offer.

Birdy’s Live Lounge Cover of Passenger – Let Her Go

I’m a massive fan of Radio One’s Live Lounge Sessions – I think music is best enjoyed when it is live and raw. I also fell in love with Birdy’s voice when I first heard her version of Skinny Love. A few weeks ago she did a Radio One Live Lounge, covering Let Her Go by Passenger, and I can’t get enough of it. It’s completely stripped back with just her hauntingly beautiful voice and a piano. I could try and describe it more, but your best bet is to simply listen to it and enjoy it.

Fluffy socks

Autumn is definitely upon us, with the nights getting darker more quickly and a distinct chill in the air. I love autumn; it’s one of my favourite seasons. Being able to wrap up in chunky knits, gorgeous coats and boots while you watch the leaves change from green to deep oranges, yellows and reds is perfect. This weather also calls for snuggling up in the evenings, and one of my go-to pieces of clothing is a pair of fluffy socks. I think I may have a slight addiction to these, as my sock draw is somewhat overrun with socks of different colours, patterns and textures. One of my favourite places to find a good pair of fluffy socks is Primark – they always seem to have a good range of designs to choose from, with some shorter pairs and others that reach right up to over the knee. I’ll certainly be on the lookout for any new, fun designs to cheer up my autumn evenings this year.

What has grabbed your attention this week? I love hearing about people’s new discoveries and you may end up sharing something that makes it onto my list next week!

Welcome!

So, here we are. My first blog post! I’m sitting here staring at a blank page and it’s a little daunting to be honest. I don’t even have any readers at the moment, but it reminds me of those times back in school when you’re told to turn to a clean page in your book to write an essay or story. So many possibilities and ideas for what you could write, but that clean, crisp page ought to have something meaningful and exciting written on it. The pressure!

I don’t want to sit here and introduce myself, as I’m hoping that as I blog you’ll gradually get to know a bit about me and my life. I can’t profess to be an ultra-fashionista or a highly polished writer. This blog will simply be a hotchpotch of whatever happens to be whizzing round my head – a sort of diary if you like. There’s no theme or particular layout I’ll follow, since when does real life ever follow a perfect theme? I’m hoping this will simply be an honest account of my personal opinions and thoughts, shared with others in the hope of entertaining, providing information and perhaps even developing friendships.

You may be wondering about the name of this blog (or you may not, in which case I apologise for my assumption!). So I’ll leave you with a picture of my inspiration for the name…my Jaffa cat.
