Halloween at Lush

As it’s Halloween next week, today I thought I would share with you some of the spooky products on the shelves at Lush this October. Back at the beginning of the month, I organised a blogger event in collaboration with my local Lush store at Festival Place in Basingstoke. Unfortunately, when we arrived in Basingstoke, we found out they’d had to cancel due to a flood in their stock room, which was a real shame. But I managed to whizz round the store and get a few pictures of some of their Halloween products to share with you. So, without any further ado, here’s what I found!

The first thing that caught my eye (I wonder why!) was this ‘Bewitched’ Bubble Bar in the shape of a black cat. With a familiar blackberry scent, it also contains Bergamot Oil and Olbanum Oil for a spellbounding and comforting bath.

Next up is one of my favourites from last year, the Monster’s Ball Bath Bomb. Maybe it’s the Disney lover in me, but this one reminds me of a character from Monster’s Inc. It’s a mash-up of lime and neroli oils to uplift and tone your skin while you relax in a purple-y mixture of monster bubbles.

The next bath bomb to cross my path was an old favourite – Lord of Misrule. This is one that comes back year after year, and really signifies the changing seasons whenever I come to use it. A mischievous bath bomb, it features a spicy herbal blend of patchouli and black pepper oil to relax and warm you as the weather turns colder. The ruler of the pagan Feast of Fools inspires the name, and inside you might just find a surprise, but I won’t tell you what it is, as I don’t want to spoil the fun!

I don’t remember seeing the next product before (but I could be wrong – I don’t have a great memory!) The Pumpkin Bath Bomb looks just like those lanterns we carve and put on our front doorsteps every year. Sweet, comforting vanilla absolute and spicy cinnamon evokes the rich, biscuit fragrance of home baking. It’s just like having a bath in a bowl of sweet pumpkin pie (but without all the sticky mess!)

Another old favourite that always brings those festive feelings is the Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar. It includes balancing juniper berry oil, uplifting lime oil and refreshing grapefruit oil to really give your bath that zingy edge. And look at all that glitter! I think Lush really needs to bring out some sort of bath cleaner for products like this!

The next product is one I definitely haven’t seen before, and I believe the whole concept is new this year. The Ectoplasm Jelly Bomb is a lilac shade with little white ghosts on the outside (how cute!) But what’s different about this bomb is that, once you’ve launched it into your warm bath water, it lets out a gooey jelly, which oozes across the surface. With brown seaweed to soften your skin, it also contains uplifting notes of tangerine and grapefruit to keep you in high spirits.

Something that really caught my eye as I was whizzing around the shop were these pink, sparkly pumpkins! The Pink Pumpkin Bubble Bar is similar to its orange friends, but instead contains toning geranium oil, uplifting bergamot oil and floral notes of jasmine absolute. Another one that is likely to cover your bath in sparkles!

Much like the bath bomb version, Lord of Misrule Shower Cream is a feast for the senses. Containing a herbal blend of patchouli oil, black pepper oil and comforting vanilla, as you rub this on your skin, organic wheat germ oil will provide a rich and creamy lather to leave your skin with long lasting moisture.

Another old favourite is the Magic Wand Soap, which looks magical in its full form, so definitely pop into a store if you get a chance. Bubbles of orange and tangerine will magic away any dirt, while pomegranate molasses will help you feel refreshed and leave you smelling sweet. The wand also contains extra virgin coconut oil to soften and soothe winter skin.

This little character will definitely brighten up your Halloween. Goth Fairy Shimmer Bar has a multitude of iridescent lustres in gold, green, purple and silver, to cover your skin in shimmer ready for those Halloween parties. Illipe and cupuaƧu butters gradually melt to soften your skin and leave a fresh and fruity scent of almond, grapefruit and bergamot. I can imagine kids absolutely loving this one!

This Black Rose Naked Lip Scrub is another one I don’t think I’ve seen before. Rather than being in a tub, this one comes naked, so you can prep your lips for that red lip with illipe butter and extra virgin coconut oil. The caster sugar gently buffs your lips to keep them smooth and organic jojoba oil moisturises, leaving your lips kissably soft. Also containing Sicillian Mandarian Oil and Ylang Ylang Oil, the scent will uplift you, ready for some Trick or Treating.

There’s nothing like a good gift at this time of year, and Lush won’t disappoint you. Like it’s little bubble bar friend, this large Bewitched Wrap is something you should really get your paws on. Inside you will find some Lord of Misrule Shower Cream, Secret Arts Jelly Bomb and, of course, a Bewitched Bubble Bar.

And what would Halloween be without a Little Pumpkin? This spooky shell cracks open to reveal a cute Pumpkin Bath Bomb and a funky Pink Pumpkin Bubble Bar. Perfect for bringing those spooky feels over the next week.

I hope you’ve enjoyed finding out a bit more about this year’s Halloween offerings from Lush. Keep an eye on my blog and YouTube channel because in a couple of weeks I’m off back to Lush for our rescheduled event! So there will be another blog post coming up soon about their Christmas range, and hopefully a vlog about the event.

Have you picked up any products from the Lush Halloween range this year? What is your favourite one?

Week in Photos - 22nd October 2017

This week I’ve pretty much just felt like a zombie every day. I’m just exhausted – I’m meant to pace my activity levels, but it’s been impossible recently with everything that’s been going on, so my body is paying the price now. Life seems to have been very busy with university deadlines and baby shower preparations. Thankfully next week is half term, so I’m really hoping I will be able to get my work done whilst also having more time to rest and catch up on sleep!

This week I was really excited to share the cover of the November issue of Happiful Magazine - how gorgeous does Katie Piper look! As some of you will know, I recently did some work experience with the team at Happiful and absolutely loved it, so you will find a bit of my work inside too! But what I’m really excited to tell you is that Happiful is now available for the first time nationwide in Waitrose stores across the country! It’s the first UK magazine to focus on better mental health, which is an issue massively close to my heart. Each issue is jam packed with fantastic articles, advice, interviews and stories – I’m so glad to have discovered it. You can subscribe to the online version of the magazine for free on their website but I would definitely recommend picking up a paper copy in a Waitrose near you as well. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the magazine when you read it, so please leave your comments and also check them out on social media.

Last weekend, Emma and I finished making this nappy cake for Lisa’s baby shower. We then wrapped it in cellophane with a few other bits. I’m really proud with how it turned out and had a fun time making it. If anyone wants to order one, we’d quite like to make some more, so give me a shout and we can chat through details!

As we don’t know whether baby is a boy or a girl, we went for very neutral colours. But we wanted to add a bit of a theme, and what better theme to choose than Disney (or Dumbo to be more specific!) There’s a bit of Me to You thrown in for good measure too. How adorable is this little wooden sign?!

Another job for Emma and I from last weekend was to make all these tissue paper Pom Poms. I was a bit worried about how they would turn out, but when you put them all together I think they look rather fabby!

I wanted to try and capture the sky at university on Monday. Because of Storm Ophelia, the whole sky was orangey yellow but really dark at the same time. And the sun was bright orange/pink. The clouds were also moving super quickly. It was kind of eerie but pretty cool as well.

These boys like us think they don’t like each other. But then we catch them snuggled up on the sofa together and realise they’re best friends secretly.

My Mum picked up a couple of Innocent Smoothies with knitted hats on for my sister and I. They’re released each year after the Big Knit, to support Age UK. Can you guess which one is for me?!

My half term is looking like it’s going to be great fun(!) What I could really do with is a week to catch up on sleep and rest and perhaps some time to work on my blog and YouTube. But instead, I will be researching, reading and writing the literature review for my dissertation. Any guesses what my topic is? At the moment I’m panicking a lot that I won’t get it finished in time for the deadline.

I really love this month’s Birchbox - I’ve been wanting to try the This Works sleep spray for ages and the Anatomicals shower gel smells amazing!

Yesterday, after months of planning and organizing, we had my sister-in-law, Lisa’s, baby shower. I’m really hoping that everyone had a good time and it was a suitable celebration before Baby Cole arrives. I wanted to give a particular shout out to The Cake Revolution for this adorable cake with a Mummy and baby elephant. Everyone really loved it and it went with our theme perfectly.

I’m also trying to post on Snapchat a bit more, so if you fancy following me, my username is Jennycole44.

Week in Photos - 15th October 2017

I’m feeling a bit stressed out and overwhelmed at the moment to be honest. University work is starting to pile up and I’ve got my first dissertation deadline at the beginning of November. I’m feeling very far behind and struggling to find the time and energy to devote to reading, making notes and writing my literature review. I’m also planning a baby shower, which is taking a lot of time and energy, and I’m getting anxious about that going well. So, all in all, I could really do with the world stopping for a bit until I can catch up! Nevertheless, I’ve had a few more birthday celebrations this week, which has been really nice and taken my mind off everything else for a bit. Time just seems to be flying by so quickly!

Last Sunday some of my family came round and we did my birthday cake and presents. How cute is this Marks and Spencer unicorn cake?! The sponge inside is three different rainbow colours too!

After doing my cake and presents, we all went out for dinner to Prezzo in Camberley. I’ve only been once before but was really impressed by the range of gluten-free dishes they had on offer. Plus yummy cocktails like this Pornstar Martini.

I took way too many photos of this cake! But it looked so pretty with the pastel rainbow candles on it (it had sparklers too but I didn’t catch them on camera).

A little snap of me enjoying my cocktail to celebrate (and maybe commiserate a bit!) my 29th birthday at Prezzo.

How beautiful are these flowers that my friend, Emma, sent me for my birthday. They’re really unusual but covered in glitter so totally up my street! Anyone that comes into the house comments on how pretty they are.

As cheeky and naughty as he is sometimes, I love that he snuggles up to us on the sofa and makes himself really comfy (even if it means pushing us out of our seats!) He always looks so content.

This week I introduced my Uni girls to french toast with maple bacon at Gail’s Bakery in Farnham. Sure, digestive problems meant I couldn’t eat much of it, but I think they all enjoyed it and we had a great time chatting and putting the world to rights. It put me in the right mood to then go to the library and take out a pile of books for my dissertation.

How cute is this gingerbread cat biscuit that my university support worker gave me for my birthday. It looks just like my Jaffa cat!

On Friday I had to be up at 6am so we could head over to Kent for a hospital appointment. We got there a bit early so, after a little nap in the car, we went to the cafƩ. This cup of tea was much needed to try and wake myself up!

I picked up a couple more DVDs to add to my Disney Classics/Disney Pixar limited edition collection. It’s gradually growing so let me know if you would like to see an up-to-date picture! And tag me on social media in your collection pictures too please – I love seeing other people’s Disney collections!
