Cosy Club Basingstoke Opening - Press Event (AD Gifted)

*I was invited to The Cosy Club Basingstoke VIP Opening Night along with three guests and we were kindly gifted our food and drink for the evening. However, all views, as always, are entirely my own

Last October, I was very kindly invited along to the VIP Opening Night of The Cosy Club in Festival Place, Basingstoke. I had hoped to get this post up a lot earlier than this, but with going into hospital for major surgery soon after, my health ended up having to take priority. I did share some stories over on my Instagram, but I thought I’d do a little post on here as well, so I can talk to you about the evening in a bit more detail.

When the invitation came through to my emails, I was also offered the opportunity to bring a few friends along too. So, on a fairly rainy Monday evening, my Mum and I went over to Basingstoke and met up with a couple of my blogging friends – Dawn from Dear Mummy Blog and Laura from Loopy Lou Laura. We’ve known each other for quite a few years now, after meeting at a local blogging event, so it’s always nice to see each other and have a catch-up when we can.

We arrived a little bit early, so waited around outside and watched the hustle and bustle inside the restaurant. Other people started to arrive as well, and soon enough the doors were opened and we were greeted by a couple of lovely ladies in beautiful 1950’s style dresses. They showed us to our table, where we settled down and started having a look through the drinks menu. Being the opening night, it got very busy very quickly, but the staff seemed to have the organisation down to a tee and managed to get everyone in their seats in a matter of minutes.

After ordering our drinks and being told we would be brought a selection of different foods to taste, we could get up and have a little look around the restaurant. The name ‘Cosy Club’ is certainly very apt, as despite it being quite a large area, every part of it feels warm and cosy. There are different types of seating arrangement depending on what you might fancy – from standard tables to cosy sofas, as well as higher tables with bar stools.

The décor is quite eclectic with colourful soft furnishings, old paintings on the walls, bold patterned wallpapers and mixture of beautifully warm lights. There’s a long bar where all the drinks are prepared in front of you and 50’s music plays in the background. All of the staff were dressed for the occasion too, with the women in pretty dresses and the men in waistcoats and flat caps. We all said it felt like we were in some sort of 1950’s speakeasy – it was like being transported back in time.

Our drinks were soon brought over – there had been plenty to choose from on the menu, whether you wanted something alcoholic or not. I went for a cherry-based mocktail, which was delicious (so good in fact, that I had to have another!) and the others had a St Clements, Virgin Mojito and a Cider. I don’t tend to drink much, so it was really nice to see a good range of soft drinks and mocktails to choose from, rather than just a Coke or Lemonade!

As we started to sip our drinks, the food began to come out. With it being the opening night, the normal menu wasn’t running. Instead, each table were given a selection of different items to try between us from the Tapas menu, which was a really nice way for us to try a number of different dishes. I was really surprised by the amount of food that kept coming out – our table was soon overflowing with plates and bowls of different dishes! I’m not sure if I can remember all of the different foods we had but they included Garlic Mushrooms on Toasted Ciabatta, Roast Turmeric Cauliflower, Goat’s Cheese and Spinach Croquettes and a Cosy Scotch Egg. My personal favourites were the croquettes and the garlic mushrooms, although everything was delicious!

Looking at the full menu, there seems to be a really good range of options for both adults and children, so there should be something to suit every taste. They offer Brunch until 5pm (I’m eyeing up the pancakes!), a variety of sandwiches, burgers, sharers, larger main meals and, of course, some very tasty looking puddings (Hello Mini Cinnamon Doughnuts!) They also have a kids menu and fairly extensive vegan and gluten-free menus too.

As well as the day-to-day service, Cosy Club’s also run a number of events. You can have a look at their ‘What’s On’ page to find out about all of the different events, but, for example, this month they are running special events for Galentine’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Pancake Day. They also offer live music some evenings as well, so it’s worth keeping an eye on your local Cosy Club to see what’s coming up.

Something I particularly liked about The Cosy Club was their ‘Free Teas for Those in Need’ scheme. It is run in partnership with Independent Age in a battle to end loneliness in every generation. They encourage those that need it to pop along to The Cosy Club for a free cup of tea every Wednesday between 10am-11am. They hope to inspire local people to come together and chat to new people. Their teams will also be on hand to have a chat, as well as offering cake, board games and somewhere comfortable to relax. As someone who raises awareness of mental health problems, as well as experiencing them (and loneliness) myself, I think it’s a great initiative to help anyone that’s feeling a bit lonely.

We had such a lovely evening catching up and trying out the new Cosy Club in Basingstoke that before we knew it, it was time for us to leave. On our way out, we were each given a Cosy Club mug with some Cosy Club purple socks to take home, which was a nice end to a brilliant evening. We enjoyed ourselves so much, that we were already excitedly chatting about when we could next go back to sample the full menu at The Cosy Club and what a great place it would be to host a South East Bloggers Circle meet-up! I’m really grateful to The Cosy Club for inviting me along to their VIP opening night at Festival Place and am looking forward to going back again as my leg gets better! If you’ve got a Cosy Club near where you live and haven’t already checked it out, I would definitely recommend getting a group together for an evening out – you’ll have to let me know what you think!

Have you been to The Cosy Club before? Or do you think you’ll be going to your local one after reading this?

Week in Photos - 3rd December 2017

Happy December everyone! It feels pretty crazy that it’s almost Christmas – where has the year gone?! I’m nowhere near ready for Christmas at the moment, so I guess I’d better start organizing myself! It’s been another busy week in the world of Jenny, which a very exciting new arrival for our family. I’ve also been feeling quite drained by university, as we’re coming towards the end of term, which always means deadlines etc. But I have been able to fit in a couple of nice things this week as well, and I’m really conscious of trying to enjoy December this year, rather than just hurrying through it to get out of the other side.

I’m absolutely over the moon to be able to introduce my gorgeous new nephew, Noah Henry Cole. Born on Sunday 26th November 2017 at 3.23am. Massive congratulations to Richard and Lisa, who are doing so brilliantly at being first-time parents – he is just beautiful. I’m so excited to be an auntie and can’t wait to watch him grow. I was able to have cuddles with him at one day old, and look forward to having many more!

This was when Noah met his three ‘Cole’ aunties! Bekkah decided that she will be the fun auntie, Rosiie will be the auntie to get him into horse riding and I will be the auntie that introduces him to Disney (of course!)

The weather has got so much colder this week, so I’ve been enjoying cups of tea in my new Cath Kidston mug, whilst wearing my new Accessorize bedroom boots. They’re so warm and fluffy!

It’s so lovely to snuggle up with Freddie in the evenings. It’s like having a little hot water bottle to cuddle!

I thought I’d rock all the Disney in this mug selfie! With my Primark Aristocats jumper (which, by the way, is very snuggly!) and my Cath Kidston Peter Pan mug. Can you tell I’m a bit obsessed with Disney?!

It’s that time of year when we light the wood burning stove again and Freddie has found his favourite spot right in front of it. I don’t think he’ll be moving any time soon!

Yesterday, I took my Mum out to Costa Coffee at our local Next and treated her to our traditional Christmas drink – a Black Forest Hot Chocolate. After that, we had a look around the store. I might have found a Christmas jumper for this year (plus a couple of presents too).

The chocolate curls on top of the Costa Coffee Black Forest Hot Chocolates are so pretty (and I never thought I’d be saying that about chocolate!) but they’re dusted with pink glitter.

How cute is this biscuit that came in my Tea Tourist box?! Anything that says ‘Shine and Sparkle’ on it is a winner in my eyes!

You can check out my YouTube channel here, where I have recently uploaded a few new Christmassy videos. I have a few more planned too, including some weekly Vlogmas uploads.

I’m also trying to post on Snapchat a bit more, so if you fancy following me, my username is Jennycole44.

If you don’t already, please give me a follow on Bloglovin here - I can’t believe I’ve managed to hit 800 followers now! Thank you all so much. I’m planning a giveaway as soon as I can get some bits together!

Week in Photos - 12th November 2017

The last week hasn’t been brilliant to be honest. I’ll go into more detail further down in the post, but basically I’ve not been well and nor has our dog, Alfie. I’ve been trying to push through and get on with university etc. but this weekend I’ve had to admit defeat and just rest. It’s meant I haven’t got things done that really needed doing, but there’s no point in pushing myself and making myself more ill. I’m just not that good at resting though hehe! I always think I should be doing something or being productive, so even when I’m feeling really poorly I end up ‘doing’ stuff!

As I mentioned, this one hadn’t been too well at the beginning of this week, poor sausage. He kept being sick and has felt rather sorry for himself. So there was lots of cuddles and TLC for him. We were really keeping our fingers crossed that he would start to feel better soon, but as you’ll read further down, that didn’t happen.

I have been ‘normal people’ poorly on top of my chronic illnesses, and it really is well and truly crap. I’ve got some yucky virus and feel pretty awful. So I’ve been snuggling in my fluffy Accessorize bedroom boots (which I really need to replace, as they’re falling apart!) and my Primark Disney jumper. I’ve also been drinking lots of tea from my Tea Tourist boxes in my Bombay Duck mug – isn’t it pretty! This spiced orange tea from Spice Kitchen is so good.

Freddie looks so adorable when he’s asleep, even if he does take up the whole sofa and push me out of my seat!

Another Pink Parcel full of interesting products to try out, plus all the essentials too. I love the fact you get a selection of both beauty and lifestyle things to sample. Plus there’s always tea, because we all know tea is essential when you’re feeling crappy!

I somehow managed to drag myself into university on Friday, although now I’m feeling even more unwell so I’m not sure it was a good idea. Anyway, this was the view out of my classroom window, which made things a little better.

This month’s Birchbox is in collaboration with Vogue – the box is really pretty. Not my favourite contents I don’t think though, but there are a few things I’ll be interested to try.

Freddie has been very cuddly yesterday and today and he snuggled up in this blanket. I think he’s feeling a bit upset, as yesterday wasn’t a good day for Alfie, our golden retriever. We had to take him to the vet, who transferred him to another vet for a sedated x-ray. They then had to put him under a general anaesthetic and open up his tummy, as he’d got half a tennis ball lodged in his stomach. We then had to go and pick him up, lay him in the back of our car and transfer him to a veterinary hospital to be kept on various drips and IV medications. He’s at risk of developing peritonitis, so they need to keep him under close observation. Poor thing looked so poorly and it’s been so strange at home without him. I think Freddie is secretly missing him too.

I won this lovely prize in a Twitter competition and it arrived yesterday. I’m really excited to try out everything.

I’ve been wearing my poppy from Crown and Glory all week with pride. Watching the remembrance programme yesterday and today always make me think of my Gran and Grandad, who both fought in the war. I miss them both terribly and remember the stories they used to tell me. The things they did for our country were truly amazing.
