In my life this week…

Birthday

Yesterday I turned the grand old age of 26. If I’m totally honest I wasn’t looking forward to it. I find birthdays quite difficult because they’re often a time to reflect on your life so far and this can make me feel quite sad and frustrated. But still, I tried to put these thoughts and feelings to the back of my mind and just tried to embrace the day. We didn’t really do any birthday stuff yesterday because most of my family were doing other things, so I found it took the pressure off a lot. I spent the day with my Mum, which was lovely. Today we are going to be doing cake and presents, and then I’m having a little party with some friends in a couple of weeks, which should be nice. I’ve been very spoilt so far with lots of lovely messages, texts and numerous bunches of beautiful flowers! I feel very lucky to have so many lovely people around me.

Shopping trip

So, as I said, yesterday I spent my birthday with my lovely Mum. I was meant to be going out to RHS Wisley with my Dad, but after looking at the weather forecast we decided to postpone it. This meant I then had no birthday plans, so my Mum very kindly offered to take me on a shopping trip to Basingstoke, just me and her. I love spending time with my Mum and don’t get to do it very often these days, what with having four other siblings and a Granny who needs continuing care. We were meant to leave fairly early, but I was so tired from college I ended up sleeping in until late, so we were a bit delayed but it wasn’t a huge problem. I had £150 in vouchers that I had won on Twitter to spend, which was lovely, as I didn’t feel quite so guilty about treating myself to some bits and bobs. We had a yummy lunch in Costa and my Mum also bought me a few gorgeous presents, which I will share with you in a birthday post in a week or so – keep your eyes peeled!

Result of a successful birthday shopping trip!

RHS Wisley

We had planned to visit RHS Wisley on Saturday, but the weather forecast was not looking promising and when we woke up on Saturday morning to see torrential rain and wind, we were glad we had postponed our trip! So instead, we decided to go this morning. It was just my Dad and I, which was lovely, as I never spend time with him on my own unless I’m going to a hospital appointment! The weather was really kind to us with brilliant sunshine but a crisp autumn chill. I’ve never been to Wisley before but had seen photos of others’ trips and was quite excited to visit. Now that I’ve been awarded a blue badge, we were able to park right up near the entrance, which was so incredibly helpful. We took the wheelchair and for the most of it, had no problems, although there were a few steep hills and bumpy bits! I had hoped to hire a mobility scooter but sadly they get booked up very quickly and I was too late. I took my camera and Macro lens with me and enjoyed mooching around the different gardens taking photos of the huge variety of plants and flowers. I think it would be impossible to see everything there in a day, but we enjoyed spending a few hours just sauntering around enjoying the views. If you’d be interested in me doing a post about our visit with some of my photos, just leave a comment and let me know.

What has grabbed your attention this week? I love hearing about people’s new discoveries and you may end up sharing something that makes it onto my list next week!

  1. I always used to hate birthdays, turning another year older etc BUT I have managed to turn my opinions around. I have received wise words like 'Another year older means we should celebrate being alive for another year' and that 'growing older is a privilege that is denied to many'. It made me see birthdays in another light! I hope you had a fantastic day xxx
