August Monthly Round Up

A collection things that happened in the month of August

August seems to have been and gone in a flash! Seriously, where on earth has the time gone?! It’s crazy to think we’re heading into autumn already. Thankfully I’ve heard we’re going to have a warm September, so don’t pack away your summer wardrobe just yet! Quite a lot has happened in my life over the last month, so I thought I’d share a few things with you. At the beginning of the month we had a big family party to celebrate my brother and his fiancĂ© getting engaged. They actually got engaged back in January, but this was the first opportunity for our families to get together and really celebrate. They’re getting on pretty well planning the wedding, despite it not being until 2016! But they’ve already booked the Church, venue and band. I decided to make them a little gift to commemorate their engagement, and I’m pleased to say it went down really well.

You may have heard me talking about the fact that I’m going to be starting college at the beginning of September. To be honest I’m pretty terrified about it all, so to make myself feel better I decided to go and stock up on new stationery this month. I love having an excuse to buy cute notebooks and folders again!

Something pretty important that I took part in this month was a blood test for something called Charlotte’s Helix. It’s basically a piece of research into eating disorders, looking to see if they have a genetic component. You can either go up to London for a blood test, or they will send you everything you need to do your blood test at your local doctor’s. I went for the second option and after half an hour and two nurses I eventually managed to give enough blood for all the tubes they wanted filling! I feel really honoured to be part of such an important piece of research and would really urge you to take part too if you have a history of eating disorders.

The final thing I thought I would share with you that has been happening in my life this month is good old Center Parcs! I only got home on Friday, but the family had a really lovely break together. I’ll be doing a separate post about the holiday but I can tell you it involved lots of cocktails, hot tubs and giggles.

Things I’ve learnt this month…

+   Being second best all the time really hurts
+   I feel like I can’t do anything right at the moment
+   Sometimes your gut feeling is right
+   I need to stop letting my heart rule my head
+   I think my body hates me
+   I love to mooch round garden centres
+   It’s so lovely to have a local friend again
+   Facebook is a bad place to be when your depression isn’t good
+   I feel like I’m not good enough for people any more
+   Why is it OK for healthy people to moan but if you’ve got a chronic illness you get criticised?
+   It’s sad that, in reality, people don’t want you to speak out if you’re depressed
+   I’m fed up of being ditched for a better option – why can’t I be good enough?
+   Some time away really shows you who your real friends are
+   I’m so excited to be a Godmother

What to look out for in September

As the days start to get cooler and the nights draw in, there’s nothing better than settling down under a blanket with a good DVD. I must admit there don’t seem to be a huge number of DVD’s coming out next month, but I found a couple to choose from. First comes Maleficent, which I’m so excited to see. It is released on 22nd September and I can’t wait to see Angelina Jolie play the wicked queen from Sleeping Beauty. If you managed to see it in the cinema I’d love to hear what you thought of it. If you’re looking for a light-hearted comedy to watch, I’ll be popping Bad Neighbours in my basket. Coming out on 8th September, it stars Seth Rogan and Zac Efron, so is set to be a good watch.

Is it just me or does TV start to get better as the year goes on?! This month I am so excited for the return of Downton Abbey on 21st September. After an epic Christmas episode last year I can’t wait to see what happens next. I’ll also be setting my box to record Paul O’Grady’s show ‘For the love of Dogs’, which is a must-see if you’re either a Paul O’Grady or doggy fan. I’m a huge fan of Paul and could pretty much watch any programme as long as he was in it! Lastly, there is a series coming out on BBC1 called Our Zoo, which looks like a lovely drama about the people who started Chester Zoo.

When I was researching for this post, I had a browse through my local cinema listings and in all honesty was a bit disappointed with the offerings for September. The only film that really stood out to me was Sex Tape, starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal. I’m a Diaz fan, so I’m hoping this will be a light-hearted comedy to give me a break from reality.

Like I said earlier, in September I’m heading off to college. I will be studying for an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Biology, Psychology, Sociology and Law, so I can then hopefully go to University to train as an Occupational Therapist. I have an induction on 2nd September and then start my timetable the week after. I’m quite excited about it but also very scared about how I will cope with me health. I’ll be sure to keep you updated!

    1. Thank you so much Hayley I really appreciate it. I'm worried about managing physically but I'm just going to try and pace myself as best I can. I'm glad you've found OT's to be helpful - hopefully I can be the same! xx
