My Quest for the best cuppa - Tetley edition*

A few months ago I wrote a post about looking for the best hot chocolate you can make at home. I had so much fun trying different varieties, so I thought it would be fun to make it into a series, looking at a whole variety of foods and drinks. So, I had a think about what I could review next, and tea came to mind. I had planned to test a few teas and write it all up in one post…I did not prepare myself for the number of teas there are available! I came to the conclusion that one post would simply not be enough to cover the massive range of teas I am trying, so I’ve decided to break it down into separate posts for different brands.

The first brand I have tried is Tetley. The people at Tetley very kindly sent me a range of their teas to sample, and I’ve had great fun trying a new one each day and making notes in my ‘Tea Tasting Table.’

The best way to review this bundle of teas is to take you through them one at a time, and then come to a conclusion at the end, so here goes.

Decaf

I added a little soya milk to this and it was perfect. I wouldn’t have known it was decaf if I hadn’t read the label, and it had a rich, warming taste.

Earl Grey

I’ve not tried Earl Grey before, as to be honest, I thought it wouldn’t be my cup of tea! But I was pleasantly surprised to find I actually liked it. This has a delicate, floral taste and is perfect for that afternoon slump with a piece of Victoria sponge.

Camomile

I’m a big fan of camomile tea, so was excited to try Tetley’s version, and it didn’t disappoint. It was comforting and safe, and the rich smell helped me relax before I headed off to bed.

Lemon Green Tea

I quite like Green Tea, so was interested to see what it would be like with a hint of lemon, and I’m pleased to say it went really well. The lemon gives it a fresh, citrus kick, giving you a tasty alternative to a standard Green Tea.

Peppermint

Peppermint is another of my favourites and I find it particularly good for calming my stomach and digestive symptoms. I find some Peppermint teas can be a bit bland, but this version had a lovely fresh taste and would be perfect for an after dinner unwind.

Green Tea

This brand of Green Tea was refreshing and simple; just what I look for.

Redbush

I’d never tried Redbush before, but have seen a lot of hype about it on social media, so I was excited to see what all the fuss was about. I can now understand the hype, although I felt it was a better drink for winter than summer. It has a warming quality, which would be perfect for snuggling up in front of the fire.

Blend of Both

This has all the benefits of Green Tea but with the taste of normal tea, and I actually really enjoyed it. It was refreshing and made me feel better about drinking my cup of tea, as I could tell myself it was full of goodness!

Green Tea – Raspberry and Pomegranate

I wasn’t sure how the next few flavours would combine with Green Tea, so was interested to test them and see if they worked. And they did indeed work. This flavour had a nice mild taste, and the only thing I would change is to make the raspberry and pomegranate taste a little stronger. The scent was beautiful though.

Green Tea – Mango and Passion fruit

I had a similar problem with this tea as I did with the previous flavour – the scent was fantastic, but the actual taste was a bit weak and bland. Don’t get me wrong, it was a nice cup of Green Tea, but I just felt the extra flavours didn’t come through as much as I’d hoped.

Green Tea – Peach and Apricot

Out of the three flavoured Green Teas I think this one was my favourite, which surprised me as I thought I’d enjoy the raspberry one more. But I found the taste seemed to come through better with this flavour. It had a lovely scent and a sweet taste, perfect for my sweet tooth.

Green Tea – Mint

This was a great combination, giving you the cleanness of a Green Tea with the freshness of mint.

Something that I particularly liked about the Tetley Teas was their funky tea bag. You simply pull the string out, pop your tea bag in a mug and pour over hot water as normal. Then, instead of having to use a spoon or something to squeeze your tea bag, you pull the strings and it squeezes out your tea bag for you. Cool or what?!

Overall, I was really impressed with the Tetley Tea range, especially the Peppermint and Redbush, and am certain I will be purchasing them in the future.

*Teabags were gifted to me by Tetley

Are you a Tetley Tea fan, or is there another brand you prefer? What is your favourite type of tea of the ones I’ve reviewed today?
