An Interview with Rose Hill Designs

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’ve been enjoying discovering small businesses recently, usually on places like Facebook and Instagram. I recently came across Rosehill Designs on Facebook and fell in love with her inspirational prints so much that I treated myself to this gorgeous one to go on my bedroom wall.

Heather was so lovely to order from, so I decided to see if she would be willing for me to feature her on my blog, which she was, and has very kindly answered some questions so you can get to know her and her business a bit better. I hope you enjoy reading her interview.

Hi there! Could you introduce yourself briefly to my readers please?

Hi there, my name is Heather Stillufsen and I am an illustrator and artist living in the US.

How old are you and when did you set up your business?

When I set up my business I was in my mid 30s - I have been doing this for about 8 years. But, I have ALWAYS been drawing and creating things.

What sorts of products do you sell and how do you source them?

I sell original artwork, custom illustrations, greeting cards, notecards, prints and stationery, notebooks and am excited to be working on a calendar for holiday release.

What inspired you to set up a business?

I have always loved drawing and art. I got my start making custom designed invitations and holiday cards for friends and then it has just spiraled from there.

Where did the name for your business come from?

My daughters name middle name is Rose and I thought RoseHill sounded lovely.

Do you work entirely on your own, or do you employ others to help out?

Yes, I do everything from drawing and painting to going to the post office, taking out the trash to answering emails on my own. I have just recently hired 2 interns this summer to help me out and work with me here in the studio.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start their own business?

Work hard at something you love. It’s never really work, I actually LOVE creating the illustrations that you see. I am always thinking up new ideas and being inspired by the world around me. I would also say NEVER give up!!! And always keep dreaming.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I get a lot of inspiration from my daily life and conversations with friends, family and people I meet. My two daughters inspire me as well as the world around me.  Sometimes I can see a dress I love that will inspire a whole drawing. Sometimes, it's a quote I hear or a book that I am reading that will have a line or two that totally stand out to me.... I think, “I have to draw this!” and I hope that whatever comes out from my pencil can inspire someone or make someone 's spirits lifted.

If you could only choose one, what would be your favourite product that you sell?

My favorite products might have to be my cards and prints. I honestly love every one of them!

Thank you so much for taking time to answer my questions Heather. I hope you have enjoyed being on my blog!

Have you ordered anything from Rosehill Designs before? Or have I persuaded you to place an order after reading this post?
