This week, I’ve been loving…
My lava lamp
Over the last month or two,
I’ve been having a lot of problems with nightmares. For as long as I can
remember I’ve experienced very vivid dreams. I talk to a lot of people who rarely
remember what they’ve dreamt about from night to night, but I have always
remembered my dreams. I can remember nightmares I had when I was three; they
seemed so realistic. However, generally they haven’t been bad or scary, usually
just plain odd! But, just recently, I’ve been experiencing really horrible
nightmares. The majority of them include me opening my eyes and feeling like
I’m awake, but the dream is still going on in my head and I can’t move my body.
I’ll be certain that there is someone in the room who is going to hurt me – my
heart races and I try to speak to call for help, but I’m completely paralysed.
It really is one of the scariest things I’ve ever experienced. A couple of
weeks ago I put a status up on Facebook asking for tips on dealing with
nightmares, and amongst the good advice I was given, was the suggestion to keep
a small light on during the night. I had a think about how I could do it, as
most of the lights I have in my room are pretty bright and stark, so would just
keep me awake. Then I remembered my lava lamp! I hadn’t used it for ages, but
thought I’d give it a go, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised! I still have
vivid dreams and the occasional nightmare, but the sleep paralysis seems to
have stopped.
Thoughtful gifts
A couple of weeks ago I put
a status on Facebook (can you see a theme here?!) saying that I want to try to
teach myself to knit. I didn’t think much more of it after that. I was going to
order myself a ball of wool and some knitting needles online and see if I could
get started. Then, last week, one of my Facebook friends sent me a message
asking for my address, as she said she had something she wanted to send me. I’d
not really spoken to her much before – she was a friend of a friend and we have
our illness in common. So, I gave her my address, and again, soon forgot about
it and carried on with my life. Subsequently, about a week later (the middle of
this week) a parcel arrived addressed to me. On opening it, I found an amazing
bag full of knitting goodies – from different sizes of needles to a whole
rainbow of coloured wools. It really was an incredibly thoughtful gift, and has
made me really excited to get started on trying to teach myself! It just
reminds you that, although there is often a lot of focus on negative things
that happen in the World, there are actually a hell of a lot of nice people out
there.
Hampshire Bloggers
A few months after I
started blogging, I began to be aware of blogger meet-ups. Browsing through
Twitter I saw groups of bloggers organising regional meet-ups, which got me
wondering if something similar happened in my area. After asking around a bit,
I came across Vicky at @Hantsbloggers – a recently established Twitter group for
bloggers in the South East (Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey). I quickly joined and
messaged Vicky to find out more. Fast-forward another few months, and I’m now
running the group alongside Vicky, and recently set up a Facebook page for us
too. Our numbers are growing and we’re starting to think about the possibility
of organising future meet-ups, which feels pretty exciting. So, if you’re a
blogger from the South East, or know of someone who is, please point them in
the direction of this link for more information!
