Sunday Spotlight - 11th May 2014

This week, I’ve been loving…

Magazine freebies

If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know that I love magazines, especially at the moment while I’m not too well. I also love a freebie (let’s face it, who doesn’t?!) so when I heard about some of the free gifts magazines were offering this month, I knew I had to get my hands on them! You know you need to get out more when the prospect of buying some new magazines fills you with excitement! On Thursday, my Mum took me down to our local newsagent and I chose a handful of this months’ magazines, which should keep me going for a fair while! With Marie Claire came a free Aromatherapy Associates Travel Set, worth an amazing £13, and Elle was offering a miniature Benefit Porefessional Primer. So, as well as relaxing with some magazines, I can now pamper myself with my freebies!

Learning to crochet

Last week I told you about a thoughtful gift I received from a friend (if you missed last week’s Sunday Spotlight, I received a knitting goody bag with wool, needles, hooks and more), so I thought I should get started teaching myself something because the longer I leave it the less likely I will be to actually do it! After asking around, I decided to go with crochet first, and after having a browse on YouTube, came across a series of crochet tutorial videos, which were clear and easy to follow. So far I’ve just been practising chain stitch and trying to get the hang of holding the hook and wool correctly – at the moment, Mum says I look a bit cack-handed! I really do hope I can get the hang of it though, as there are so many things I want to make! If anyone has any tips or can recommend any books/YouTube videos, I’d love to hear them!

Cute gifts

I love having pen pals! You’re probably more than aware of this by now, but I thought I’d say it again! A few months ago I met a lady on Instagram from California, who was looking for a pen pal, and we started writing to each other. After the first couple of letters, we decided to send each other little boxes of goodies, which is such a fun way of trying things from a different country that you can’t find here. This week I received a lovely parcel from California (almost a month after she posted it!) full of different sweets to try, along with the cutest little soft toy I have ever seen. He’s now sat on top of my cupboard, making me smile every time I look at him!

What has grabbed your attention this week? I love hearing about people’s new discoveries and you may end up sharing something that makes it onto my list next week!
