March Round-up

A collection of my favourite things from the month of March

I really don’t know where this last month has gone! I’ve spent a lot of it going back and forth to the hospital, which hasn’t been a great deal of fun, but it has helped to start getting some more answers into why I’ve spent the majority of my life unwell. I now also have a date for my next lot of surgery, which should be in a couple of weeks all being well. I have to confess that I’ve been doing quite a bit of online shopping to try and cheer myself up! I was browsing Instagram about a month ago and came across a photo of Lizzie, from Blue October Blog sporting a gorgeous denim jacket. I’d been looking for a nice denim jacket for ages, so had to ask her where it was from! I decided to treat myself to it, and I’m so glad I did. The denim is really soft and comfortable to wear, and the fleece lining is so snugly. It’s going to be a great investment piece to wear when the days are cool and fresh. If you’d like to get your hands on one, check out Topshop where they seem to have a few different shades of denim to choose from.

I’m a bit of a self-confessed neat freak and love nothing more than having a tidy, organised house. I really do believe in the saying ‘a tidy house makes a tidy mind,’ as I feel so much calmer when my environment is clean and uncluttered. Saying that, I am also a bit of a hoarder (I know, the two things don’t really match – go figure!) so I’m always looking for ways to make the most of the space around me and find attractive storage solutions. This month I have invested in a couple of different types of storage for my beauty products and I’m really happy with how they’re working for me. First was this simple set of acrylic draws from Muji, which I have started to fill with various make-up products. I love the fact that I know exactly which draw to look in when I want something, rather than rifling through a jam-packed make-up bag. The second thing I bought was another piece of acrylic storage, this time from Amazon, for displaying my nail varnish collection. Unfortunately there isn’t room for my whole collection, but it’s a nice way to display my favourites.

My final favourite purchase from the month of March is my comfy Minnie Mouse sweater, which was a bargain at only £19.99 from New Look. I ordered it online a couple of weeks ago, but to be honest I wasn’t sure I’d really like it as I thought it might be a bit gimmicky. However, as soon as I tried it on I fell in love with it! It’s so soft and comfortable – I could definitely see myself living in it when I have cosy days relaxing at home.

Things I’ve learnt this month…

+   Medical staff don’t seem to be very good at communicating
+   I seem to spend my life fighting for help with health problems
+   Spring flowers really cheer me up
+   Receiving a bunch of unexpected flowers makes my day
+   Feeling sunshine on your face can really cheer you up
+   My baby sister is 15 already – where does the time go?!
+   People say they’ll be there for you whenever, but then desert you at the first opportunity
+   Helpful doctors with a good bedside manner do exist
+   Nightmares are still scary when you’re an adult
+   I don’t seem to do anything right
+   Nail wraps are a fab invention!
+   There are some very narrow-minded people around
+   I’m fed up of constant criticism
+   I never seem to be good enough
+   I’m addicted to Jelly Babies, especially the red ones!
+   I wonder if I’ll ever get my happy ever after
+   Having a shower when you’re not well leads to a bathroom submerged in water!

What to look out for in March

I’ve not been hugely impressed with TV during March to be honest. I followed ‘The Widower,’ which was really well done, even if it did give me nightmares. But apart from that, and the usual soaps, there doesn’t seem to have been an awful lot on. So, I’ve found myself watching re-runs of shows like New Tricks and Big Bang Theory. So I was excited to hear that Series 7 of The Big Bang Theory is due to hit E4 on 3rd April at 8pm. I’ll definitely be tuning in to see what Sheldon and friends are getting up to!

I love this season’s beauty trends and can’t wait to get my hands on some pastel lipsticks and pink blush. I’m also dying to treat myself to this gorgeous floral collection from Nails Inc. I’m a massive nail varnish fan and especially love polishes from Nails Inc, as they give great coverage and last for a lot longer than some of the other brands I’ve tried. My only problem is, I can’t decide which colour I like best, as they all look so pretty, so I’m not quite sure how I’m going to choose which one to add to my collection!

If you’re planning to go to the cinema this month, it’s looking relatively quiet for new releases. You’ve obviously got The Muppets Most Wanted, which I spoke about at the end of February. If you’re a Spiderman fan, there is another film being released in a couple of weeks. And I’ve also found ‘Love Punch,’ starring Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson, which opens on 18th April. However, I’m much more excited about some DVD releases this month. Frozen has only just come out, and if you didn’t get to see it in the cinema, I would wholly recommend popping it in your basket this month. Mandela – Long Walk to Freedom will be released on 28th April and Anchorman – The Legend Continues, also comes out on the same date. I think I know what I’ll be watching while I recover from my surgery!

Finally, we can’t forget that April brings with it Easter! I know a lot of people aren’t religious, but for me personally I see Easter as a time of reflection and a chance to start again. However, that doesn’t stop me wanting to enjoy the commercial side of Easter too, and I’ve already been having a look at some Easter products I might be treating myself and loved ones to. Lush is always one of the first places I look when it comes to various holidays, and this year they haven’t disappointed with what looks like a fantastic selection of Easter themed goodies. I’m particularly excited to try their Carrot Soap and Bunny Bubble Bar, although I think the bunny might be too cute to put in the bath! Yankee Candle are also known for bringing out new products around Easter, so I was excited to see that this year they will be selling Bunny Cake and White Chocolate Bunnies candles, which I’m sure will smell incredibly yummy.
