Sunday Snippets - 1st November 2015

I feel like every time I write my Sunday Snippets I comment on how busy my week has been! Life just feels really overwhelming at the moment, and I know I don’t help myself by taking things on, but I just seem to be a bit rubbish at actually listening to my body and admitting I need to rest. I’ve got the Basingstoke Blogger meet-up I’m organising in just over a week, which I’ve been stressing out about, so I’m hoping once that’s out of the way I might finally be able to pace myself a bit better.

I made sure that last Sunday was going to be a quiet one, as I knew I’d be suffering from payback after my tea party. I ended up sleeping until after midday, which is very unusual for me but I think I needed it. I felt pretty awful and spent most of my day resting and trying to get on top of my pain, which seems to be rather difficult at the moment. This little cheeky man came and snuggled up with me on the sofa. I decided to have a gluten-free roll for my lunch that was left over from my party, but Freddie decided he wanted one too, so kept stealing little bits off my plate. How can I be angry with this cute little face though?!

After finding out that our Reading Week at Uni had been cancelled, I had to make my way in on Monday for a lecture. I decided to make the most of being there by scheduling in some filming for the afternoon. So, after the lecture I headed to Starbucks with a couple of friends and we did some planning whilst having our lunch. My Dad then met us and we did our filming in several locations for a news package we’ve been asked to put together. One of the places we filmed was in this park on the outskirts of Farnham and, despite being freezing; I thought it was so pretty and autumnal. I had planned to go to my support group in the evening, but I fell asleep on the sofa when I got home and by the time I woke up it was too late!

Tuesday was a little more relaxing thankfully. In the morning I had my penultimate STEPPS group, which has left me feeling a bit worried about what will happen with my care next. In the afternoon I had a lovely massage, which really helped me relax and also gave me some relief from my muscle pain. This lovely post from one of my penpals also arrived – I always enjoy reading letters from my penpals and happy mail always lifts my mood on those dark days.

Wednesday was another fairly quiet day, apart from my fasting blood test first thing in the morning. I’m having a lot of problems with my sugar levels dropping, which is making me feel pretty unwell, so my GP is trying to work out what’s going on. She also just wants to do a general check on things as I’m struggling to fight off infections and just feel generally more unwell than usual. After my blood test I wrote a blog post, which was nice as for the last few weeks I’ve only managed to get my Sunday Snippets up and I have so many ideas for posts. A friend then came over to give me a reflexology session, which I found so relaxing I actually ended up falling asleep! I had a nice quiet afternoon doing a bit of Uni work, watching TV and opening the presents I was given at my tea party. People were incredibly generous and I was very spoilt. I still have a pile of parcels to open that came in the post, but I’ve had to really spread it out this year so I can actually enjoy opening them, rather than trying to do it when I’m too exhausted.

Thursday was a lovely day, as I got to meet up with one of my best friends, Katrina. We went to college together and she lived down the road from me, but after Uni she went to work in Dubai for three years. She’s now back in the UK though and has a job in Luton, so it’s nice to be able to see her a bit more. I didn’t have to go into Uni so had a bit of a lie-in, which was nice. Katrina then picked me up and we had a bit of lunch at Costa. We had a mooch around Next, where I bought a lovely jumper, then she wheeled me round Tesco, where I treated myself to some more Disney DVD’s for my collection. It’s slowly growing (I’m trying to collect them all if you haven’t been reading my blog long) and I was really happy I managed to get some more of the limited edition covers. I was really tempted to buy more, as they were BOGOF, but I was good and managed to stop myself. My Mum now has some Tesco vouchers though, so I may have to go back!

Also on my trip to Tesco, I decided to pick up these beautiful pink roses for my bedroom. They were an absolute bargain at only £6 for 24 stems! There’s nothing better than having fresh flowers around the house, especially when the weather gets cold and the nights are drawing in. They really help to lift my spirits (along with fairy lights, candles and big hugs of hot chocolate!)

After a few quieter days, on Friday it was back to being busy. In the morning I had another session of my pain management course, where we chatted about pacing and what we would like our ideal life to look like. I found it quite hard if I’m honest, as being ill has affected so many of my dreams and ambitions. But we talked about the fact that, although our life isn’t working out as we hoped it would, we can still live a fulfilling life if we adapt and embrace the new paths we’re forced to go down. In the afternoon I had a lecture at Uni, then headed home to crash out on the sofa. These new Yankee Candles arrived in the post and I’m really looking forward to burning them as they smell divine!

Yesterday, being Halloween, I decided to try and plan something nice to do. I don’t really celebrate Halloween (I’ve always found it kind of scary if I’m honest!) so I like to try and fill the day with nice happy things and lots of light. My friend, Lilli, came to pick me up and we went to a local town to look for some lunch. We found a lovely little cafĂ© that we hadn’t been to before, so we chilled out in there for a while and enjoyed a baguette and smoothie. We had a quick look round a couple of shops and I picked up a 2016 diary, a Filofax insert and some Christmas cards. When we got home we got out our pumpkins and, along with my sister, Bekkah, we carved out some Disney themed characters. I was really pleased with how they turned out, and we sat them on our lounge windowsill so all the little trick or treaters could see them as they walked around.

If you haven’t read my blog before, I just wanted to let you know that I have a second blog, which mainly focuses on my health in more depth than I talk about it here. It’s largely for friends and family to follow and keep up with what’s going on, but if it’s something you would be interested in reading as well, you are more than welcome to follow me over there. It’s called Unicorns and Floral Crowns and you can find it by clicking here. I’m also trying to post on Snapchat a bit more, so if you fancy following me, my username is Jennycole44.

What have you been up to this week? I always enjoy hearing about your news and adventures!
