Week in Photos - 10th December 2017

This week has been mega difficult – I’ve had a full week of university, which I struggle with anyway, but I’m also still unwell with this horrible virus and it’s completely flooring me. I’ve worked out it must be about six weeks of having this virus now, which isn’t much fun. I would really like to start feeling a bit better so I can actually enjoy the run-up to Christmas rather than just wanting to curl up under a blanket and sleep!

Is anyone else slightly obsessed with Paperchase postcards?! I seem to always pick a few up whenever I go into the store, so am building up quite a collection. I am trying to send them out now though, as it seems a bit silly just having a pile of them at home doing nothing. These two from my latest purchase really make me chuckle.

Freddie sits in the funniest places and somehow still manages to look comfortable. I was sitting on the sofa this week and he usually likes to snuggle up on my knee. But instead, he climbed round the back of me and perched himself on top of the sides of the cushions!

We’ve finally got the first of our Christmas decorations out – the Advent Candles always look so pretty when it’s dark and cold outside. We haven’t got our tree or anything else up yet (we still need to go and buy our tree, as we have a real one) but I’m hoping we can start to put everything up soon. I’m struggling to feel very Christmassy at the moment, so maybe once we start putting up the decorations it will help get me into the Christmas spirit.

As I said, I was at university for a full week this week. We were doing a ‘news week,’ which is where we simulate a newsroom every day and put out either some online articles or a television news programme. It’s incredibly hard work and can be quite stressful, but it did mean I could treat myself to a Christmassy Starbucks. I’m also addicted to these Salt and Vinegar Pom-Bears at the moment – they’re so good and gluten free too!

To try and help myself feel a bit more Christmassy, I decided to drink my tea in one of my Christmas mugs. This one was from Jilly Jilly and covered in little snowmen and marshmallows. She does so many cute mugs for Christmas and beyond, so I would definitely recommend checking out her website if you’re looking for lovely gifts (or just something for yourself!)

One of the news stories that I decided to cover this week was about a Christmas Tree Festival in a local church. I went to have a look around and do some filming with my friend, Nina, and it was so pretty. There were over 100 trees, each decorated by a different community organization, and it felt totally magical in there. Now I just wish we could get our own Christmas tree up and decorated.

I was meant to be at university all week, but by Wednesday evening I was feeling so unwell that I decided that I needed to take Thursday off and stay at home. I’m not very good at actually resting, so I did a little bit of sorting out and put away some of my birthday presents. This Little Women book was one of my birthday gifts and I just think it looks so pretty. I’ve never actually read the story before, which is terrible considering it’s a classic, but I’m hoping that having such a beautiful copy of it will encourage me to start reading.

Once I’d done a bit of tidying and sorting, I curled up on the sofa and started writing my Christmas cards. I’m determined that, one year; I will have them all written before December even starts. But that hasn’t happened this year (mainly thanks to being unwell and university taking over) so I’m trying to get them done before the last posting dates.

With not being well and having a really sore throat, I’ve been pretty much living on different variations of tea, which means the chance to use lots of cute mugs. This unicorn one was another of my birthday presents, and it made me smile having it sitting there on my coaster while I watched the soaps on TV.

While I was looking online for present ideas for people, I came across the 2017 collection of Disney Christmas TsumTsums. As they were in the Black Friday sale, I just couldn’t help myself, so treated myself to all of them for my TsumTsum collection. They look really cute sitting in this little pyramid on top of one of my DVD towers!

Thankfully I was feeling well enough to go and see my friend Charlie yesterday and her two children, Izzi and Joe. We don’t get to see each other that often, but when we do it’s always lovely to have a good catch up. Charlie had planned lots of nice things for us to do – first we made magic snow, which Izzi and Joe absolutely loved! Then we made Christmas tree decorations and decorated a gingerbread house. I definitely felt more Christmassy by the time I was due to leave.

This was one of the little penguin decorations we made with Izzi and Joe. It was a bit more tricky than we expected, but they turned out really well and look great on Charlie’s tree.

You can check out my YouTube channel here, where I have recently uploaded a few new Christmassy videos. I have a few more planned too, including some weekly Vlogmas uploads.

I’m also trying to post on Snapchat a bit more, so if you fancy following me, my username is Jennycole44.

Week in Photos - 26th November 2017

I haven’t felt that great this week to be honest. Although I seem to have almost got rid of the virus I’ve had for the last few weeks, I just seem to be feeling pretty down, wiped out and run down. Basically, all I want to do is stay in bed and sleep. But this week has been crazy busy with university and appointments, so that hasn’t been an option. I don’t really like being negative on here, but I also think it’s important to acknowledge when things are a bit crap – this is meant to be about my life after all. Somehow, I need to find some motivation and get myself back on track again.

After taking some time off, I was back at Uni on Monday for another news day. I had to edit together a pretty serious video about railway suicides. So I decided to treat myself to a Christmas Starbucks in one of their cute Christmassy cups. I noticed they also had some adorable ceramic Christmas mugs in the shop, which I’m so tempted to go back and buy (although I’m not quite sure where I will put it – my mug collection is getting pretty big!) Thankfully, my news package got some amazing feedback from my course leader and another lecturer. They’ve even recommended that I enter it into a competition, which was a massive complement. I’ll be sharing it on my YouTube very soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Freddie always manages to spread himself out in the most uncomfortable looking positions! Yet somehow still manages to look cosy and cute. He’s particularly loving my Dunelm teddy bear blanket at the moment!

It’s been so dark, cold and gloomy recently and as I mentioned, I’ve been struggling with my mental health quite a bit. So when I popped into Waitrose to get some cash out, I decided to pick up these beautiful autumnal flowers to go in our kitchen. How gorgeous are those roses.

My Mum has made our kitchen look nice and cosy with fairy lights. There’s a heart hanging from one of the windows and then three lanterns, all from Waitrose. I always like to use lots of fairy lights and candles this time of year. It helps to make the darkness a bit less dark.

I received these amazing Dr Martens for my birthday last month and completely forgot to share a photo of them with you! So here they are – have you ever seen anything quite so pretty?! I will definitely feel like some kind of mermaid unicorn when I wear these. There’s a ‘What I got for my birthday’ video up over on my YouTube channel.

On Thursday, my Dad and I took the train up to Denmark Hill for my appointment at Kings College Hospital. I had to do some exercise tests where they monitored my breathing, oxygen saturation, heart rate and blood pressure. I knew it would be hard, but oh my goodness it completely knocked me out. I ended up having to give up before I passed out, so I hope they got what they needed. Because I was so wiped out afterwards, they told me to go down to Costa and get some sugar in me (and who was I to say no?!)

Our boy is doing so well since his surgery – he’s such a fighter. Considering how poorly he was only a short while ago, he’s done fantastically. This week he had his stitches taken out in two stages, but unfortunately he’s still got to wear the inflatable collar (which he’s not impressed with at all!) but it’s so he doesn’t re-open the wound. It’s good to have the real Alfie back again.

A few years ago, I started a little tradition that each year I would buy a new Christmas film. I’m building up quite a collection, so it’s getting more and more difficult to find films to add. But this year, after getting recommendations from some Facebook friends, I picked up a box set of Santa Clause films and also The Nightmare Before Christmas. So I’m looking forward to watching these over the next few weeks.

My Mum and I went over to Richard and Lisa’s yesterday to see the bunnies, Benjie and Beatrix. They’re so cute and fluffy, so it was nice to have a little cuddle.

Week in Photos - 8th October 2017

The last week seems to have been jam-packed with university, medical appointments and bit of birthday-ness crammed in for good measure. I can’t get my head around the fact I turned 29 this week – where is time going?! I really don’t feel like I’m nearly 30. I feel like I’m maybe 16 at best! There’s so much I wanted to have achieved by this age but most of it hasn’t happened – being in a stable relationship, getting married, thinking about starting a family, living in my own house and having a good career. It’s hard when poor health takes so much away from you, and I think it makes birthdays more difficult to be honest. So it can feel quite strange trying to celebrate something that only reminds you of what could have been. But I’ve tried my best to enjoy it by spreading out the celebrations over a week or so, instead of wearing myself out trying to do everything in one day.

I love the fact the leaves are changing colour. Getting to jump (well, put my foot out of my wheelchair!) in crunchy leaves really is the best feeling.

This little one is so cute. He falls asleep in the strangest of positions! This was after dinner last Sunday when he snuck onto Rosiie’s lap and squished his nose through her arm.

I’ve been wearing my new Disney jumper from Primark and it’s so cosy! I think I need to get the rest of the collection so I have one for every day of the week!

Finally I had my first Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season (decaf with coconut milk for anyone that’s interested!) – it was so yummy and I can’t wait to warm up with more over the next month.

For my birthday on Wednesday, my parents and I went back to West Green House Gardens for a proper look around. The walled garden is so pretty and full of roses, dahlias and all sorts of other beautiful flowers. Going round it in my wheelchair was lovely, as every time I brushed past something I could smell something different.

I honestly thought that going to look at gardens at this time of year would mean very few flowers, but I couldn’t have been more wrong! I could have taken so many flower pictures (and I did on my actual camera, so be prepared for a separate blog post!).

I’ve got very few photos of my Mum, Dad and I, so I thought my little birthday trip out with them both was a good opportunity to take one.

This is one of the prettiest places to just wander around, especially at this time of year when there are so many beautiful colours. And it was wheelchair accessible too, so win win all round! There were geese and swans on the lake and leaves and conkers on the group – perfect.

I managed to get out of my wheelchair and stomp in the leaves for a few steps. Shame I wasn’t wearing more aesthetically pleasing shoes, but I wanted to document it nevertheless.

The last time I collected conkers I was probably about seven or something! But I really wanted to find a few to use for autumnal photo props and it took me right back to childhood. The excitement of looking in the shells to see if they had been opened yet. And choosing the shiniest ones; the ones that would be best for that game of conkers on the school playground.
