Week in Photos - 12th November 2017

The last week hasn’t been brilliant to be honest. I’ll go into more detail further down in the post, but basically I’ve not been well and nor has our dog, Alfie. I’ve been trying to push through and get on with university etc. but this weekend I’ve had to admit defeat and just rest. It’s meant I haven’t got things done that really needed doing, but there’s no point in pushing myself and making myself more ill. I’m just not that good at resting though hehe! I always think I should be doing something or being productive, so even when I’m feeling really poorly I end up ‘doing’ stuff!

As I mentioned, this one hadn’t been too well at the beginning of this week, poor sausage. He kept being sick and has felt rather sorry for himself. So there was lots of cuddles and TLC for him. We were really keeping our fingers crossed that he would start to feel better soon, but as you’ll read further down, that didn’t happen.

I have been ‘normal people’ poorly on top of my chronic illnesses, and it really is well and truly crap. I’ve got some yucky virus and feel pretty awful. So I’ve been snuggling in my fluffy Accessorize bedroom boots (which I really need to replace, as they’re falling apart!) and my Primark Disney jumper. I’ve also been drinking lots of tea from my Tea Tourist boxes in my Bombay Duck mug – isn’t it pretty! This spiced orange tea from Spice Kitchen is so good.

Freddie looks so adorable when he’s asleep, even if he does take up the whole sofa and push me out of my seat!

Another Pink Parcel full of interesting products to try out, plus all the essentials too. I love the fact you get a selection of both beauty and lifestyle things to sample. Plus there’s always tea, because we all know tea is essential when you’re feeling crappy!

I somehow managed to drag myself into university on Friday, although now I’m feeling even more unwell so I’m not sure it was a good idea. Anyway, this was the view out of my classroom window, which made things a little better.

This month’s Birchbox is in collaboration with Vogue – the box is really pretty. Not my favourite contents I don’t think though, but there are a few things I’ll be interested to try.

Freddie has been very cuddly yesterday and today and he snuggled up in this blanket. I think he’s feeling a bit upset, as yesterday wasn’t a good day for Alfie, our golden retriever. We had to take him to the vet, who transferred him to another vet for a sedated x-ray. They then had to put him under a general anaesthetic and open up his tummy, as he’d got half a tennis ball lodged in his stomach. We then had to go and pick him up, lay him in the back of our car and transfer him to a veterinary hospital to be kept on various drips and IV medications. He’s at risk of developing peritonitis, so they need to keep him under close observation. Poor thing looked so poorly and it’s been so strange at home without him. I think Freddie is secretly missing him too.

I won this lovely prize in a Twitter competition and it arrived yesterday. I’m really excited to try out everything.

I’ve been wearing my poppy from Crown and Glory all week with pride. Watching the remembrance programme yesterday and today always make me think of my Gran and Grandad, who both fought in the war. I miss them both terribly and remember the stories they used to tell me. The things they did for our country were truly amazing.

I’m also trying to post on Snapchat a bit more, so if you fancy following me, my username is Jennycole44.

Week in Photos - 22nd October 2017

This week I’ve pretty much just felt like a zombie every day. I’m just exhausted – I’m meant to pace my activity levels, but it’s been impossible recently with everything that’s been going on, so my body is paying the price now. Life seems to have been very busy with university deadlines and baby shower preparations. Thankfully next week is half term, so I’m really hoping I will be able to get my work done whilst also having more time to rest and catch up on sleep!

This week I was really excited to share the cover of the November issue of Happiful Magazine - how gorgeous does Katie Piper look! As some of you will know, I recently did some work experience with the team at Happiful and absolutely loved it, so you will find a bit of my work inside too! But what I’m really excited to tell you is that Happiful is now available for the first time nationwide in Waitrose stores across the country! It’s the first UK magazine to focus on better mental health, which is an issue massively close to my heart. Each issue is jam packed with fantastic articles, advice, interviews and stories – I’m so glad to have discovered it. You can subscribe to the online version of the magazine for free on their website but I would definitely recommend picking up a paper copy in a Waitrose near you as well. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the magazine when you read it, so please leave your comments and also check them out on social media.

Last weekend, Emma and I finished making this nappy cake for Lisa’s baby shower. We then wrapped it in cellophane with a few other bits. I’m really proud with how it turned out and had a fun time making it. If anyone wants to order one, we’d quite like to make some more, so give me a shout and we can chat through details!

As we don’t know whether baby is a boy or a girl, we went for very neutral colours. But we wanted to add a bit of a theme, and what better theme to choose than Disney (or Dumbo to be more specific!) There’s a bit of Me to You thrown in for good measure too. How adorable is this little wooden sign?!

Another job for Emma and I from last weekend was to make all these tissue paper Pom Poms. I was a bit worried about how they would turn out, but when you put them all together I think they look rather fabby!

I wanted to try and capture the sky at university on Monday. Because of Storm Ophelia, the whole sky was orangey yellow but really dark at the same time. And the sun was bright orange/pink. The clouds were also moving super quickly. It was kind of eerie but pretty cool as well.

These boys like us think they don’t like each other. But then we catch them snuggled up on the sofa together and realise they’re best friends secretly.

My Mum picked up a couple of Innocent Smoothies with knitted hats on for my sister and I. They’re released each year after the Big Knit, to support Age UK. Can you guess which one is for me?!

My half term is looking like it’s going to be great fun(!) What I could really do with is a week to catch up on sleep and rest and perhaps some time to work on my blog and YouTube. But instead, I will be researching, reading and writing the literature review for my dissertation. Any guesses what my topic is? At the moment I’m panicking a lot that I won’t get it finished in time for the deadline.

I really love this month’s Birchbox - I’ve been wanting to try the This Works sleep spray for ages and the Anatomicals shower gel smells amazing!

Yesterday, after months of planning and organizing, we had my sister-in-law, Lisa’s, baby shower. I’m really hoping that everyone had a good time and it was a suitable celebration before Baby Cole arrives. I wanted to give a particular shout out to The Cake Revolution for this adorable cake with a Mummy and baby elephant. Everyone really loved it and it went with our theme perfectly.

Week in Photos - 10th September 2017

It’s been a bit of a quieter week thankfully, as I definitely needed to slow down after my week of work experience! I’ve only got another week before I go back to university, so I’m trying to make the most of it by doing things with my family and getting some rest. I’ve also spent a lot of time this week editing my friend’s wedding video. It’s almost finished now, which is really exciting – I just hope she likes it! My weekend has been a bit busier with a couple of trips out with my Mum, so I’m feeling a little bit wobbly today and in need of some chill time.

I’m sure this gorgeous boy gets cuter every day! He was all snuggled up next to me with his paws on his nose and I just wanted to cuddle up and give him a kiss on the nose!

I can’t believe my baby boy turned 13 this week. My parents gave him to me on my 16th birthday to keep me company because I’d become really unwell. Over the last 13 years he has become my best buddy. He sits with me on the long nights when I’m too poorly to sleep, snuggles up next to me to calm me down when I’m feeling anxious and just generally makes life that little bit better. Happy 13th Birthday Jaffa.

On Thursday I went for a walk/wheel around the lake at California Country Park with my Dad, Rosiie and the dogs. Alfie wasn’t so sure about going to a new place but Freddie was loving life (and trying to jump in the lake!) I thought this photo of Rosiie and Freddie was adorable.

This month’s Birchbox collaboration with Oliver Bonas is pretty darn snazzy! I’m looking forward to finally trying the balm from Dr Paw Paw too.

I was lucky enough to be invited along to a bloggers breakfast at Bill’s on Saturday morning, to celebrate the opening of The Lexicon Bracknell, which, by the way, is flipping awesome! I got to chat to these lovely ladies, hear all about The Lexicon, be interviewed for their social media and then have a browse around some of the fabby shops including Primark, New Look, Boots, Cath Kidston, Joules, Fat Face and more! I can’t wait to go back again. There will be a detailed post about my day there up on my blog soon.

Another great selection of teas from this month’s Tea Tourist box. If you think you’re signing up, can I tempt you with 30% off your first box if you use the code JAFFACAT30 – I can definitely recommend it if you’re as obsessed with tea as I am!

I love this picture of Rosiie and Freddie, which I took on our walk around California Country Park. Freddie was using all the restraint he had not to jump in the lake! It was so lovely to get out in the countryside in my electric wheelchair. There was a concrete path all the way round the lake, which meant it was easy for me to get round. I haven’t really been able to go out with the dogs or get out in the countryside for years, and it’s something I miss doing so much. So doing this made me very happy.

There are some exciting things to try in this month’s Pink Parcel subscription box. That make-up brush is ridiculously soft and I’m looking forward to cosying up with a cup of tea.

Ages ago, when I ordered Grace Victory’s new book, this book by Megan Jayne Crabbe (Body Posipanda) came up in the recommendations. It sounded like something I could really benefit from reading, so I decided to pre-order it. I then completely forgot that I’d done that, so when it arrived on my front door step this week, it was a really lovely surprise! I can’t wait to read it and to hopefully start to change my negative thoughts about my body.

I thought this message on my Birchbox was a good quote to finish my post with this week. Work Hard, Play Hard and Be Kind!

I also want to apologise for the slightly shabby state of my blog at the moment. I’ve had problems after Photobucket changed their terms, but am gradually sorting things out and hope to also have a new layout fairly soon.
