Week in Photos - 3rd December 2017

Happy December everyone! It feels pretty crazy that it’s almost Christmas – where has the year gone?! I’m nowhere near ready for Christmas at the moment, so I guess I’d better start organizing myself! It’s been another busy week in the world of Jenny, which a very exciting new arrival for our family. I’ve also been feeling quite drained by university, as we’re coming towards the end of term, which always means deadlines etc. But I have been able to fit in a couple of nice things this week as well, and I’m really conscious of trying to enjoy December this year, rather than just hurrying through it to get out of the other side.

I’m absolutely over the moon to be able to introduce my gorgeous new nephew, Noah Henry Cole. Born on Sunday 26^th November 2017 at 3.23am. Massive congratulations to Richard and Lisa, who are doing so brilliantly at being first-time parents – he is just beautiful. I’m so excited to be an auntie and can’t wait to watch him grow. I was able to have cuddles with him at one day old, and look forward to having many more!

This was when Noah met his three ‘Cole’ aunties! Bekkah decided that she will be the fun auntie, Rosiie will be the auntie to get him into horse riding and I will be the auntie that introduces him to Disney (of course!)

The weather has got so much colder this week, so I’ve been enjoying cups of tea in my new Cath Kidston mug, whilst wearing my new Accessorize bedroom boots. They’re so warm and fluffy!

It’s so lovely to snuggle up with Freddie in the evenings. It’s like having a little hot water bottle to cuddle!

I thought I’d rock all the Disney in this mug selfie! With my Primark Aristocats jumper (which, by the way, is very snuggly!) and my Cath Kidston Peter Pan mug. Can you tell I’m a bit obsessed with Disney?!

It’s that time of year when we light the wood burning stove again and Freddie has found his favourite spot right in front of it. I don’t think he’ll be moving any time soon!

Yesterday, I took my Mum out to Costa Coffee at our local Next and treated her to our traditional Christmas drink – a Black Forest Hot Chocolate. After that, we had a look around the store. I might have found a Christmas jumper for this year (plus a couple of presents too).

The chocolate curls on top of the Costa Coffee Black Forest Hot Chocolates are so pretty (and I never thought I’d be saying that about chocolate!) but they’re dusted with pink glitter.

How cute is this biscuit that came in my Tea Tourist box?! Anything that says ‘Shine and Sparkle’ on it is a winner in my eyes!

Week in Photos - 19th November 2017

It’s been a relatively quiet week, mainly because I still haven’t been well, so have spent a lot of it curled up at home on the sofa! I am gradually starting to feel a bit better though and was able to go out towards the end of this week. All of a sudden it seems to have got so much colder. I’ve had to de-ice my car a couple of times this week and have also had to dig out my gloves and scarf. I’m also feeling very festive this year and am really trying to get myself organised well ahead of Christmas (I do say this every year though, and it never seems to happen!)

Our poor boy has really been through the mill over the last week. If you saw my post last week, you’ll know that he decided to eat half a tennis ball (the one time we didn’t put his muzzle on for his walk!) Obviously this isn’t the best thing to do, so he ended up having emergency surgery to open up his tummy and get it out. It was pretty touch and go for the first 48 hours and I’ve never seen him so poorly, which was very scary and sad to watch. But he’s a fighter and, a week on, is doing amazingly. He’s got a big scar right down his belly and needs to have the stitches removed next week but otherwise he’s doing so well. He’s started eating and drinking, his tail is wagging again and he’s almost back to his usual bouncy, cuddly self.

My Mum picked up these adorable mini Christmas cupcakes in Waitrose this week. Sadly they’re not gluten free (just to explain, I’m not coeliac but I do have other digestive conditions and there’s research to suggest a certain diet can help relieve symptoms. So I try to follow a gluten free diet as much as possible) but I wanted to try one. I can confirm they are very yummy! I just wish there was more exciting stuff available in gluten free form!

This Thursday I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to review The Bull at The Lexicon in Bracknell with my Mum and Dad. I honestly just assumed it was going to be pretty ordinary pub grub, but all three of us were pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing and the atmosphere and surroundings were so cosy and lovely. There will be a detailed post up about it all very soon, so keep your eyes peeled to hear more.

After our lunch at The Bull, my Mum and I decided to have a mooch around Primark - their Disney game is seriously on point at the moment! They have some really good Disney slippers and also some great Disney Christmas bits. I was literally in heaven! I’m really hoping to go to Disneyland Paris next year for my 30^th birthday, so am gradually adding to my collection of clothes and accessories. There will be a Christmas Primark haul over on my YouTube very soon!

I had my first Christmas Costa Coffee of the year on Friday with my friends from Uni, Emma and Amber. It was great to have a good old chat and enjoy a soya Black Forest Hot Chocolate – yum!

So, I might have treated myself to a few Christmas Bath and Bodyworks candles. I’m so glad with my choices – these all smell amazing, especially Champagne Toast. And the lids are so pretty – I’ll definitely be using them as coasters once I’ve burnt the candles.

How pretty is this month’s Tea Tourist box?! Week in Photos - 5th November 2017

As I didn’t do a Week in Photos post last weekend, I thought I would bring the last couple of weeks together in this post. It’s been a fairly busy couple of weeks (as usual!) I had my half term/study week first, which was lovely because I desperately needed a bit of time off. Although I actually spent most of it working on the literature review for my dissertation. Then this week I was back at university again and also had quite a few medical appointments (one of which was over in Kent, so that was a whole day thing). I can’t believe we’re in November already! I’m really starting to feel a bit Christmassy now and should really start getting myself organised soon.

Last week I ended up taking a bit of an unintentional break from social media. I’ve just been feeling very overwhelmed by life and university work, so focused on getting my work done and taking a bit of time for myself. I was also gradually opening post that was sent to me for my birthday. I know it probably sounds silly that it took me so long to open parcels, but I really wanted to be able to appreciate opening them and feel grateful for what each person had chosen for me. So I wait for times when I’m not completely wiped out, which means it can take me a while. This parcel was from my friend Adele, and I absolutely loved the homemade unicorn card and flamingo paper!

I was very excited to get my hands on a copy of Happiful Magazine - the first time I’ve had a byline in a national magazine! It’s a pretty cool feeling. If you want to check out the UK’s first magazine to focus on positive mental health, you can find a copy in a selection of Waitrose stores. I know I’m biased but I definitely recommend it!

I love these miniature roses that I bought for my Mum. The colours are so beautiful and autumnal.

As I said, I spent most of my half term working on the literature review for my dissertation. But on Friday afternoon, my Mum, Dad, Lisa and I went on a scarecrow hunt around our town. It was organised by our church and was such great fun for all ages! So much work went into all the scarecrows too. We’re hoping it will become an annual event.

I really do love this time of year, especially when the weather is like this. Cool crisp days with blue skies and leaves of every colour. I often take a minute to just soak it all up and appreciate how beautiful it is. There have been (and no doubt will be in the future) so many times that I haven’t been well enough to leave the house or even my bed. So I like to try and lock moments like these in my memories to help me through my more poorly days. I find that when I am too unwell to get out and about, the things I miss the most are the simple things like this, rather than big exciting outings.

My sister-in-law, Emma, and I carved some pumpkins last weekend. Of course, we had to go for Disney characters, so Emma did Cinderella and I went for the Cheshire Cat. What do you think of them?

I just love all the pretty leaves at this time of year. Especially when they’re all crunchy, so that when I go through them in my wheelchair they make that lovely crunching sound.

I’ve been burning this Bath and Bodyworks Leaves candle recently and oh my goodness it smells amazing! My room definitely smells like autumn all the time at the moment. I have a couple of other autumnal ones to burn and I’m eyeing up the Christmas range. I just can’t choose which ones to get!

We decided to make my brother a New Dad Survival Kit using one of his paramedic bags. Inside were things like earplugs, wipes, beer, a baby manual, chocolate, paracetamol, a ‘Daddy’ mug, some coffee and some cute baby grows. Hopefully it will come in useful when Baby Cole arrived soon!

I was very excited to see the article I wrote in a magazine with Princess Eugenie on the cover! This is the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Reflexions magazine and I wrote a piece about my time at Stanmore on the three-week rehabilitation programme. Hopefully it might help other people who are waiting to go on the programme, as I know while I was waiting I really wanted to know what it was like. You can also read about my time there in more detail in previous blog posts.

We don’t normally decorate for Halloween, but I had to get this banner and some pumpkin balloons for our filming at university, so I brought them home and decorated the fireplace. The banner was from Poundland and the light-up pumpkin balloons were from Sainsbury’s.

Everyone knows I’m a little bit obsessed with the Marks and Spencer Percy Pigs. So when my Mum spotted these Percy Pumpkins she picked up a few bags for me. I thought they looked cute with my little munchkins from Waitrose too – I love that they come in all sorts of different colours and shapes.

There have been some absolutely beautiful sunsets this week. This one was outside the new Hobbycraft in Farnborough. My Mum and I went over to check it out and when we went to leave this is what greeted us in the car park. The colours were just amazing.

Yesterday, we all went to watch the Yateley Firework Display, which was great as usual. I’m really starting to feel Christmassy now that Bonfire Night has happened. After the fireworks, we came home and had jacket potatoes, sausages and beans. And then we toasted some marshmallows – we had to use forks though as we couldn’t find any sticks! They were still very yummy and smelt so good.
