Sunday Snippets - 13th September 2015

The last week has been kind of crazy. My head has been all over the place, my anxiety has been sky high and I’ve been trying to make sure I have everything ready for starting University tomorrow. It feels like it’s come round so quickly and to be perfectly honest I’m terrified about how I’m going to cope. I’ve done everything I can to make things as easy as possible – from taking my wheelchair to having an assistant to help me get around. But I’m still very nervous about how my health will fare, especially over the next week, which is going to be incredibly busy with some really long days. But if I don’t try I’m never going to get anywhere, so I just need to look at getting through one day at a time and making sure I rest as much as possible when I get home.



For the last few years I’ve had a 16-25 Student Rail Card, which has served me well. I don’t travel by train that often, mainly to get up to London for hospital appointments, but I’ve travelled enough for it to make a difference. This year though, I decided to look into the Disabled Rail Card after a member of railway staff recommended it to me. My card arrived this week and I would definitely recommend looking into it if you have a disability. There are certain rules about how you qualify for one, but because I met the criteria it was a really easy process and the card arrived within a couple of days of ordering it and providing my evidence. Much like the 16-25 card, you get 1/3 off your ticket price, but with the disabled card your carer will also receive 1/3 off their ticket price too. Unlike the 16-25 card, you can also use the disabled card during peak travel times.



For my University course, I was asked to buy an address book, as we are likely to make lots of important contacts over the next three years. I had a look in places like Paperchase and WHSmith, but just couldn’t find anything I really liked. So I had a browse on Amazon and found this pretty book, which wasn’t too expensive and has a separate tab for each letter of the alphabet. It feels really sturdy and has plenty of room to write addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses. I will definitely enjoy filling this up over the course of my studies.



Although I’ve spent a lot of this week fretting about Uni, I did manage to have a couple of trips out for coffee. On Wednesday afternoon I met a friend at our local coffee shop and we had a good chat over Strawberry tea, which was so yummy! Then on Thursday I went out with my Dad and brother to get the last couple of bits for Uni, and afterwards we treated ourselves to a Costa. I had a soya gingerbread latte if you’re interested!




Post this week has been a bit quieter than last week, but I still received a couple of lovely things. The first card I opened was this adorable Good Luck card, drawn by Jammy and Jelly (who drew my blog header), which was sent to me by my friend Zoe. It really made me smile and I keep glancing at it every time I go into the lounge, reminding myself that I have people supporting me with this new adventure. Another lovely piece of post came from a lady I started chatting to in the Crown and Glory Glitterati Facebook group. I receive their monthly subscription box and sometimes members receive the same piece but in a slightly different design. In last month’s box I received a gorgeous rainbow hair slide/pin, but when I was browsing the group I saw that some people had received a pastel version, which I loved even more. A very kind lady called Jennie offered to swap with me, and sent me some other lovely goodies as well, including the awesome card by VeronicaDearly.

  1. Your new address book is gorgeous, Jenny - I love it! I'm so sorry ot hear your anxiety is so bad because of university, but just try to remmeber that it won't be like this forever and it will ease off once you've started - it's always terrifying starting something completely new and you should be so proud of yourself for pushing yourself to do something like that :) xxx
